(a. i.) : Müslümanları ibâdete çağırmak için çok defa minareden, muayyen kelimeleri söylemek suretiyle, yüksek sesle yapılan davet. [Allâhü ekber Allâhü ekber, Allâhü ekber Allâhü ekber. Eşhedü en lâ ilahe il-l’Allah. Eş-hedü en iâ ilahe il-l’Allah. Eşhedü enne Muhammeden Resûl-Ullah. Eşhedü enne Muhammeden Resûlullah. Hayya-al-esselâ, Hayya-al-esselâ, Hayya-al-el-fe-lâh Hayya-al-el-felâh (sabah ezanlarında ilâveten : es-salâtü hayrün min-en-nevm). Allâhü ekber Alla-hü ekber. Lâilâhe il-l’Allah]. (ezanı ilk okuyan zât : Hz. Bilâl-i Habeşî’dir).

iz. ar: cemâat-i Müslimîni namaza davet ve vakt-i salâtı ilân için müezzin tarafından minarede vesaire bazı ahvâlde okunan tekbir ve kelimeteyn-i şehadet ile diğer kelimât-ı marufe: ezân okumak, ezân vermek, ezân okundu, ezân-ı Muhammedî.

s. The notification, announcement, call to divine worship, proclaimed from a minaret or any other place. The following is its formula. First of all الله اكبر God is Most Great (four times اله الله اشهد ان لا I bear witness that (there is) not a god, save God (twice repeated); اشهد ان مهمدا رسول الله I bear witness that Muhammed (is) the apostle of God (twice); حی علی الصالوة Hasten to divine repeated) ;(once more repeated). Inside the place of worship, this is called when worship begins لا اله الاالله; (twice again repeated) الله اكبر;Hasten to permanent blessedness (twice) حی علی الفلاح worship (twice); Divine worship has already been entered on قد قامة الصلوة of the clause, twice repeated حی علی الفلاح also, but then with the addition, after
